Jaatra ("we", "us") operates the Jaatra mobile application. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Information We Collect

• Location: Used only while the app is open to show your position on the map and find nearby transit stops. We do not track your location in the background.
• Saved places & searches: Stored locally on your device only. Never uploaded to our servers.
• Feedback & contact email (optional): If you submit feedback through the in-app Feedback form, your message is sent to our servers. You may optionally include an email address so we can reply — it is never required to submit feedback.
• Analytics & crash diagnostics (optional): If you explicitly opt in via Settings → Privacy, we collect anonymous usage data (screens viewed, features used) and crash diagnostics (error messages and component stack traces) to help us fix bugs and improve the app. Powered by PostHog.

Information We Do Not Collect

• We do not collect names, phone numbers, or payment information.
• We only collect an email address if you choose to provide one when submitting feedback — it is optional and never required.
• We do not sell or share any data with third parties. We only share data with service providers (such as PostHog) who help us operate the app, under their own privacy commitments.
• We do not use advertising or ad trackers.
• We do not access your contacts, camera, microphone, or files.

How We Use Your Information

• Location: To center the map, find nearby stops, and set your journey origin.
• Route queries: Sent to our server to calculate journey plans. No personal information is attached to these requests — only the origin/destination coordinates.
• Feedback & contact email (if provided): Used only to review and respond to your feedback. We do not use it for marketing and do not share it with third parties.
• Analytics & crash diagnostics (if opted in): To understand which features are used, diagnose crashes, and improve the app experience.

Data Storage & Retention

All personal data (saved places, recent searches, language preference) is stored on your device using local storage. Our servers process transit route queries but do not store any user-identifiable information from those requests.

If you submit feedback, your message and optional email address are stored on our servers only for as long as needed to review and respond to it, and are deleted afterward unless we are required to keep them longer for legal reasons. Anonymous analytics and crash diagnostics (if opted in) are retained by PostHog under their own retention policy and are not linked to your identity.

Third-Party Services

• OpenStreetMap: Map tiles are loaded from CartoCDN. Their privacy policy applies to map tile requests.
• PostHog (optional): If you opt in to analytics, anonymous usage events and crash diagnostics (error messages, component stack traces) are sent to PostHog's US servers to help us monitor app health and improve the app.

Children's Privacy

Jaatra is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13.

Your Rights

• You can clear all local data by clearing the app's storage in your device settings.
• You can opt out of analytics and crash diagnostics at any time in Settings → Privacy.
• You can deny location permission and still use the app (manually search for locations).
• You can request deletion of a feedback submission (including any email you provided) by contacting us. See jaatra.bd/delete-data for full deletion instructions.
